Highest quality, increased output: Book Printing Group USA has added a Manroland Lithoman III to its machinery pool. The new machine will be the central component of the Book Printing Group USA’s softcover production in conjunction with two softcover binders.
Bertelsmann Marketing Services’ Book Printing Group USA has added a Manroland Lithoman III to its machinery pool. The modern web offset press replaces two older units and is currently being put into operation at the Berryville location. The new machine will be the central component of Book Printing Group (BPG) USA’s softcover production in conjunction with two softcover binders – one of which has been running since 2021, and another that will be added at the end of 2023.
The machine is designed for high productivity and will help to further improve adherence to schedules. In addition, sophisticated products in particular will benefit from its high print quality. “Japanese mangas and books with halftone images or illustrations can be printed with pinpoint clarity. We are already starting to get positive feedback on this from customers,” says BPG USA’s COO Jorge Velasco.
In the coming year, another offset press will be acquired for producing hardcovers. This expansion of the equipment pool is part of the “One BPG USA” large-scale project. However, a number of measures had to be taken prior to the introduction of the new machine generation in Berryville. Among other things, it was necessary to lay a new concrete floor and install a better cooling system and a new paper dust collection system. Over the coming weeks, the focus will be on fine-tuning all of the processes to fit the new machine, from plate making to paper delivery. Its output is twice that of the old units. “And, of course, we will train our team so that we are able to take full advantage of the new possibilities offered,” says Jorge Velasco.
